The Pataluoto School
The Pataluoto School is one of the eight secondary schools in Joensuu. The school is situated in a residential area Rantakylä. We have about 450 pupils in 7th - 9th grades and 50 teachers in our school. The spirit of the school is based on the highly valued/ respected Finnish school system and the curriculum.
Pupils have compulsory and optional subjects in their school timetable. The compulsory subjects are Finnish, English, Swedish, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, PE, health education, student counselling, arts, home economics, crafts, history, religion, music. The optional subjects are media, PE, arts, craft, IT, home economics, dance, German, France etc.
There are classes for special need education, preparatory year for integration and special education for drama and PE (physical education).
Pataluoto School aims at supporting pupil’s learning and individual growth in cooperation with parents. The central goals are that the young people grow to be cooperative and responsible members of their society, with an ability to understand differences in people. We encourage them to strengthen self-esteem and raise awareness of healthy way of life.
Pataluoto School wants to increase it’s international relationships. We would like to encourage our students to be brave to speak in different languages. We also want to teach students wilderness skills, so that they could move actively in nature in all seasons.
